Why Toddler and Baby Pajamas are Tight and Snug-fitting

If your child’s pajamas are NOT tight or snug-fitting, they may either be made of polyester (which may irritate your child’s sensitive skin) OR chemically treated to be flame retardant.

In the US, Canada, and other parts of the world, it is required by law that children’s sleepwear are either flame-resistant or snug-fitting to prevent burn injuries.

As a result, loose-fitting children’s sleepwear are flame-resistant, which means they are either made from flame-retardant fabrics such as polyester (which is not ideal for kids with sensitive or eczema-prone skin) OR treated with flame retardant chemicals (which is even worst). Although some labels may indicate they are not treated, flame retardants may still be used during the manufacturing process.

Alternatively, snug-fitting children sleepwear is less likely to come into contact with flame and rapidly ignite because there is less air under the garment to feed such a fire.

For kids with sensitive, eczema-prone skin, it is always recommended to stay away from synthetic fibers, such as polyester, or chemically treated clothing which can further irritate their skin. Always check for the large rectangular yellow tag on your children’s pajamas that says the pajamas are not flame resistant.
