When Does Spring Start?
Spring officially starts on the vernal equinox, which is typically on March 20th or 21st in the northern hemisphere. This year it starts March 20th, 2023. This is the day when the amount of daylight and darkness is approximately equal, marking the transition from winter to spring. However, the exact date of the vernal equinox can vary slightly from year to year.
In addition to the vernal equinox, there are a few other signs that spring has arrived. These include the appearance of flowers and buds on trees, the return of migratory birds, and warmer temperatures.
Spring Activities for Toddlers
Now that you know when spring starts, it's time to start planning some fun activities that you and your toddler can do together to celebrate the season. Here are a few ideas to get you started:
1. Go for a nature walk. Take your toddler for a walk in a local park or nature preserve and point out all the signs of spring you see along the way. Look for flowers, birds, and other signs of new life.
2. Have a picnic. Pack a lunch and head to a nearby park or playground for a picnic. This is a great way to enjoy the warmer weather and spend some quality time with your little one.
3. Plant a garden. Toddlers love to get their hands dirty, so why not let them help you plant a garden? You can start with some easy-to-grow plants like sunflowers or herbs, and let your toddler help water them and watch them grow.
4. Make spring-themed crafts. There are lots of fun and easy spring-themed crafts that toddlers will love, such as painting flowers or making a birdhouse out of a milk carton.
5. Visit a farm or zoo. Spring is a great time to visit a local farm or zoo and see all the baby animals that have been born. Your toddler will love seeing the chicks, lambs, and other baby animals up close.
Spring is a wonderful time to spend with your toddler, exploring nature, and enjoying the warmer weather. By taking advantage of the signs of spring and planning some fun activities, you can make this season one that you and your little one will never forget.
